About the sky values on this site

Sky brightness, Bortle classes and Milky Way dates on Yozora Atlas are calculated from NASA satellite data and astronomical positions. They describe a clear, moonless night and are estimates, not measurements on the ground and not a weather forecast.

The darkest spots are parking areas, viewpoints, campsites, picnic sites and trailheads from OpenStreetMap. Before you go, check that a place is open at night, that you're allowed to be there, and that the road is safe to drive in the dark. Drive times are estimates from OSRM routing and don't include traffic or road closures.

We check the data carefully, but can't guarantee it's complete or up to date.
