Hosting and server logs
This site is hosted by ALL-INKL.COM, Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany. Its servers are in Germany. The hosting is set to keep no access logs, so no record is kept of who opened which page. To send you a page, the server still has to process your IP address and the request itself (the page, your browser and the time) for as long as the connection lasts. ALL-INKL may also process this briefly to protect its servers against attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We have a data processing agreement with ALL-INKL under Art. 28 GDPR.
No cookies, analytics or tracking
The site sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and uses no analytics or tracking. Fonts, scripts and map images all load from this site's own server, so your browser makes no requests to other companies while you read it.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to Google Maps and Sky & Telescope. Nothing is sent to them unless you click a link; after that, their own privacy policies apply. The "Directions" links open Google Maps (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) with the coordinates of a dark spot or observatory as the destination.
Google Search Console
We use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in Google search. It runs no code on this site and gives us no data about individual visitors.
Contact form and email
The contact form asks for your email address and your message, and optionally your name. If you came from a place page, it also sends that page's address. When you press send, this site's server at ALL-INKL checks the form and passes it on as an email. It stores nothing itself.
The email, like any email you send us directly, arrives in an inbox at Gmail, run by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google may process it on servers outside the EU, including in the US.
We use your details only to answer you. The legal basis for the form is your consent, given with the checkbox (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by emailing us. For emails you send directly, it is our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your message is about a contract. We delete the conversation 12 months after it ends, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
Place data
The places and sky values on this site come from public datasets: NASA satellite data, GeoNames, Wikidata and OpenStreetMap. They contain no personal data about visitors.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR)
- have incorrect data corrected (Art. 16)
- have your data erased (Art. 17)
- restrict how we process it (Art. 18)
- receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20)
- object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21)
- withdraw any consent you gave, with effect for the future (Art. 7(3))
- complain to a data protection authority (Art. 77)
